Links to their websites which has a gallery of their work is available from our LINKS page. Fitting an oak floor is a specialist job that requires certain skills and tools to be done correctly. The moisture content of a subfloor is critical and we strongly advise that moisture checks are carried our prior to fitting of an oak floor. Also the flooring needs to be aclimatised before fitting commences. This is to allow the wood to settle at the ambient temperature of the building. We recommend a minimum of a week for solid oak. If you have underfloor heating it should be thoroughly tested and the system run at working temperature for two weeks prior to fitting of the flooring. Floors can be fitted by either glue fitting direct to a screed subfloor or by secret nailing onto plywood, battens or joists. Boards up to 160mm wide can be secret nailed in solid oak, but we strongly recommend that boards wider than this are screwed and plugged through the face of the board to prevent cupping of the board. We are always available to give advice if you decide to fit the floors yourself. Any competent DIYer can fit a floor as long as he has the correct tools and follows certain guidelines.
